How to Export a Squarespace blogs data and import it into a WordPress.com blog

EDIT:  After a massive response to this post i have a few people to do this for them as they do not know how to install servers or dont have the time, so if you have a need for this then get in contact with me and we can work it out. Thanks for all the responses!

I was recently asked to export a clients blog posts and data from a squarespace account and import it into a WordPress.com blog. I was thinking this would be a easy job but not knowing how to do it i turned to google for the answer, I found, i thought, what i was looking for.

I easily exported the squarespace data and went to the wordpress site to import, it seemed to work but nothing would actually import,it just sort of hung there.

After a lot! of googling I still could not find any reason for this not to work and no one seemed to have a answer.

After many failed attempts and yet seeing ( on youtube ) people easily importing Sqaurespace data it  occurred to me that maybe WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.ORG blogs were very different animals and perhaps Wordpress.COM blogs simply are not able to import the blog data from a Squarespace account

Finally, after not finding anyone with the answer I came to this slightly complicated but workable solution to get Squarespace data out and into a WordPress.com blog

Below is a brief step by step of what I did, if you understand all the steps already, great!, if not check back soon and as I will be posting a detailed tutorial with screenshots as soon as I can.

  • Log in to your Squarespace account and download you blog data ( see Sqaurespace tutorials )
  • Install and start Mamp or another internal/test server
  • Create a Mysql database for WordPress
  • Download, install and create a Wordpress blog, any details will do ( you can delete this blog straight after )
  • Log in to the WordPress blog that you have just created on your test server
  • Go to Dashboard and select Tools>Import
  • Click ok to install import plugin and select the import Movable Type and TypePad option
  • Select the downloaded Squarespace blog data file and select import
  • Check Posts to confirm the all the blog data has imported correctly, each post will be listed if successfully imported
  • Export the Wordpress( on test server ) blog data as a WordPress data file type ( Tools>Export )
  • Log back into your Wordpress.COM blog
  • Import the newly exported Wordpress data ( from test server )
  • All Done.

I hopes this helps at least one person out there, Let me know if thats you and post a comment.

Or even better if im totally wrong and you have a better way please let me know

Your first and easiest Metasploit exploit of a Windows Xp box ( how to ) with Screenshots

After finally getting my head around how to install and set up Backtrack and Xp on virtual box with Bridged networking enabled ( so they each get there own ip address ). I started to dig around the web to find tutorials and help and a general place to start, it seemed the first place people started was cracking WEP passwords found on routers, after fun with that and finding really how easy it is i decided to move on.

I found next Metasploit and Meterpreter and heard of the all the things it could do and just how powerful it was, there is so much out there and for all the good of that I found my self shifting through lots of videos and tutorials that were ok, but just too complex for me I just wanted a simply step by step of something easy to dip my toes in.

After learning and investing a bit more time I have realised just how easy some of the Metasploit is and how bad XP is and simply to own.

Below follows the easiest Windows Xp computer hack I could do along with hopefully some decent screenshots. It also runs through some Meterpreter tools to get you started.

This tutorial assumes you have Backtrack up and running and a windows Xp sp2 box that is yours or that you have permission to hack and that both boxes are on the same network either virtually or RL

So here goes

Scary. It shouldn’t be this simple to steal facebook passwords from a windows XP machine. far too easy.

Below is a video of me stealing my own Facebook login details off a Windows XP sp2 machine with Backtrack 5 using msfconsole and meterpreter.

This is my first real play with Backtrack apart from WEP cracking and im still learning so if you do find any massive errors please be gentle with the comments

I put this video really to highlight how unsafe XP is and really, just generally how it can be really un-secure using other peoples network or even not knowing who is own your network, so make sure you have a good password and your router is WPA protected. ( see my post on how easily WEP protected routers are cracked ), as well as having your computer running the most up to date software

Its pretty scary how easy this was to do and learn, it took maybe a hour to learn and 15 minutes to tweak and perform. I really think anyone could learn this, I only hope they dont.

Take the video for what it is, if you need any help recreating this or have any questions I will do my best to help.
